A boy from India has broken over 100 bones in his lifetime, earning him the nickname ‘glass bones’ due to his rare condition. Rohit, a 12-year-old from Uttar Pradesh, India, suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, commonly known as ‘brittle bone disease’.
Rohit’s condition is extremely severe, as even the slightest touch can cause one of his bones to break, limiting his ability to play with other children. His condition has also impacted his growth, with the 12-year-old weighing only 15 kg and standing at 17 inches tall. This Indian boy is dealing with a rare and difficult case of osteogenesis imperfecta.
Rohit, a 12-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh, India, faces a serious condition where even a slight touch can result in a broken bone due to osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as ‘brittle bone disease.’ Unfortunately, this illness has isolated him from playing with other children.
When he wakes up in the morning, he manages to do many things on his own, not needing help from anyone, which makes him rely on his mother. Rohit is the youngest of his two older siblings. However, despite his condition, the young boy dreams of becoming a singer when he grows up and declares that he won’t allow his illness to hinder his ambitions.
While there is no known cure for osteogenesis imperfecta, individuals affected by this condition can seek treatment to improve the strength and protection of their bones. Although new treatments are being tested, many of these options may not be accessible in developing countries.
Rohit is shown diligently brushing his teeth, adapting to his challenging circumstances despite his severe condition. His older sister patiently teaches him how to read, and he is in excruciating pain for the majority of the day. When he wakes up in the morning, he struggles to complete many tasks on his own, making him reliant on his mother for assistance.
